Puppetry

Peer Gynt
This is a short shadow puppet show I created inspired by and set to the music of Edvard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King. For this project I created a full storyboard, designed 20+ unique shadow puppets, and animated a projection background. I learned many new skills while working on this and also discovered 100 ways to not make a shadow puppet show.
Straw Girl (Monster)
A long time artistic partner asked me to design and build a monster puppet for a new short play called Straw Girl. This was the first large puppet I've created. It was a blast collaborating with director Michael Beverley on bringing this piece to "life". Though it is a towering, looming figure, it is actually very light. It consists mainly of a wooden dowel internal frame, chicken wire skeleton, and layers of scrap fabric.
Twisted Tales
As a member of the artistic council of the Puppet Co., I helped devise a new puppet show called Twisted Tales. The show starts with a brief nursery rhyme told with shadow puppets. I designed the Cat and the Fiddle. I went through dozens of drawings before I landed with the product shown here. I wanted this puppet to feel dynamic so I gave it two separate pieces with a hinge at the waste.
Puppet Performance
For most of my life, marionettes seemed so intimidating. So many strings! What if they get tangled?! Since coming to the Puppet Co., I have a few hundred hours working with marionettes under my belt and I absolutely love it. Not to mention I have gotten very, VERY good at untangling puppets.

The Little Prince (in progress)
I will soon be directing The Little Prince at the Puppet Co.
I have chosen to create my own Little Prince puppet for this production. I am still early in the process and it has proven to be as rewarding as it is challenging. The Little Prince opens at the puppet Co. in June of 2026.
