Appalachian Trail

In 2024, I thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. The trail stretches 2,200 miles through some of the most rugged terrain on the east coast. For 6 months, a tent was my home, a 30lbs backpack of supplies was my only accessible possessions, and climbing up and down mountains was my only job. I endured torrential downpours, an oppressive heat wave, injuries, and treacherous mountain ascents. It was one of the most challenging experiences of my life, both physically and mentally.

Why would I want to do this? The short answer is because I just did, and always wanted to since I was a kid. I've always craved that sort of adventure. But sometimes even a strong sense of wanderlust can't carry you through the hardest days, when your feet are blistered, and you're soaked through with rain or sweat. I know I couldn't have made it on my own. This is where the amazing trail community comes in. I start the Appalachian Trail alone, but quickly made very close friends. A trail family of fellow thru hikers to support each other on the journey. More than most beautiful waterfalls, more than the astounding mountain views, more even than the accomplishment of fulfilling a childhood dream, I am going to treasure the irreplaceable friends and community more than anything.
